My First Post of Twenty Ten, Baby!

Yeah, I said it! It's Twenty Ten, not Two Thousand and Ten! Learn it, love it, live it!

I've had this discussion with others and I'm digging my heels in this time. I may have let two thousand nine pass because it was just simpler than the grammatically correct twenty aught nine, but now that we are in double digits there's no excuse not to go with the correct version. Consider how we have read 1809, 1810, 1909 and 1910 in the past. And what number comes after 19? I'll wait while some of you count your fingers and toes... 20! Exactly! So there's no confusion then, right? Good. You are a logical bunch after all...well, mostly anyway.

This being my first post of 2010, I wanted to first thank all my lovely followers for following and for your wonderful comments and for your patience in thinking that eventually I might write something interesting or entertaining. I love your optimistic point-of-view! I am planning on posting many more articles this year about all different subjects, so be prepared to be dazzled! (Look for my upcoming historical essay on suspension bridge construction. It’s riveting!)

Thank you also to my recent followers who have just hopped aboard the Sophisticated Lunacy train. Welcome, welcome, welcome, and please keep your hands and feet inside the blog at all times. I am so very new to this medium, having only just started bitching and complaining blogging sometime back in early September, but it has been a most enjoyable few months, not just because of the creative outlet it affords me, but also for the new friends I have made here in the blogosphere and the excellent writing I have had the pleasure to read.

Frankly I am in awe of you, my fellow bloggers, not just for your talented pieces (where do you get the ideas for those great posts?) but for the frequency of some of your posts as well, with some even doing it daily! Wow! Much respect, my bloggy bro’s and bloggy babes! You rock! One of the things I intend to do for 2010 is bump up my frequency of postings while hopefully maintaining that same unique level of quality that brings you back again and again. I apologize in advance.

In fact there are a whole host of "resolutions" that I intend, in good conscience, to keep for this year. Perhaps this would be an opportune time to share them with you? (Yes, that would be an original idea, wouldn't it?)

1. I plan on writing more posts about myself, my world, and the people and things that populate it. I got a very nice response to my last article in this vein and it was very encouraging. I'm working on some ideas at present that, if everything goes well, will give me ample writing topics. For example, right now I am playing the lotto so I can hopefully one day write a blog about winning the lotto. I'll keep you posted.

2. I plan on being less of a procrastinator this year, which is why I am posting my New Years Resolution list in early January instead of late February. In addition, I also plan on going on a diet, budgeting my money better and getting more exercise. Starting sometime this month.

3. I plan on curing the common cold this year. I'm not a scientist, but I have a hunch that it involves beer and pizza, but so far I haven't been able to figure out the optimum ratios between the two. As always, I will keep the research going until a cure has been found. Or I need a liver transplant. Whichever comes first.

4. This year I am going to train for a new career with greater future growth than my previous occupations. I'm smart, good with people, have a caring, helpful attitude and I am really good at asking the right questions. Questions such as "would you like fries with that?" That is what a pimp would say, right?

5. Sometime in the next 12 months I plan on having something published. Like maybe an article or a short story. I think I've already done all I can with the lucrative "letters to the editor" market. Maybe I can have a joke published in Reader's Digest too. I hear they pay big money for those.

6. I plan on being a better blog follower this year. Like a lot of us, we get busy reading so many blogs and don't leave a comment to let others know we were there. Even if I think the post was good, bad or indifferent, I am going to leave a comment and stop being such a lurker. I think it shows greater support for our fellow bloggers. And I will comment on the comments made on my blog with more regularity. I stink at that too.

7. I am going to learn to play piano this year. I might learn to play it badly, but it will still be a distinct improvement over my current skill level. And when I am sufficiently competent on a particularly challenging piece, I will post a VLOG of my performance on my blog so my fans can see what a superficial egotistical glory-hog I really am.

I think that is plenty of resolutions to start with. Any more and I might run the risk of being unable to complete them all. I wouldn't want that to happen. So 2010 sounds like it is going to be one kickass year according to my projections. I thank you all again for being there with me on this journey and for your continued support, along with the occasional "I told you so" when I need it. God knows I can use a little humility once and awhile!

My best to you all!

Tom

  1. Great resolutions, especially about the procrastinations. I’m going to blog about me finally joining PA (Procrastinators Anonymous) soon. And I will bring up your post at our next meeting, as soon as we have one.

  2. Tom,
I am going to enjoy following your progress, and taking the opportunity to learn more about you from your writing this year. It truly is a pleasure to read your humorous and thoughtful posts....and you have been an excellent support, your comments always provide a spark of inspiration. "Arise, Go Forth, and Conquer"! (I wrote that in a past life when my name was Tennyson).

  3. You are more than welcome to join the rest of us getting fit over at Lose It Bitches! You don't even have to don the button. But lots of helpful exercise tips, and recipes. Though, not really sure how that fits with your cure for the common cold with beer and pizza. You may have a conflict in there somewhere. Just sayin'! :D

    Happy New Year!

  6. Thank you all for your wonderful comments! Wow! Way to start the new year!

@ Coffeypot - John, you be sure and let me know when the PA meeting is scheduled. I have always wanted to see pigs fly! Thanks for stopping by!

@ TomS - You have been a great support yourself and also a source of inspiration, so thank you for that. But I will definitely Arise, Go Forth and Conquer! I may make that my new mantra! LOL!

@ ZGirl - I stopped by and checked out Lose It Bitches. I can definitely use an ally in this battle so I want to follow and take advantage of all the tips and recipes. Thanks for the invite! The cure for the cold can wait.

@ JennyMac - Lovely to see you again. Thanks again for the nice comments. I definitely will be doing some more personal posts regardless of how I procrastinate so please stick around and catch the fun!

@ Hillbilly - You play chopsticks? That's super cool! Maybe we can jam someday, wouldn't that be awesome! I know it's easy to be a lurker and just swing by and leave, but you didn't this time, so thank you for gracing my blog with your presence once again. I really appreciate it!
